MiSight® Contact Lenses

(FDA-Approved)

Brilliant Futures MiSight 1® Day Contact Lenses for Myopia Control

How Do MiSight® 1 day Contact Lenses Work?

MiSight® 1 day is a dual-focus soft contact lens that uses ActivControl™ Technology to slow the elongation of the eyeball. This technology utilizes an optic zone concentric ring design with alternating vision correction and treatment zones. Two zones are vision correction zones with the label power of the contact lens, and the alternating two zones are treatment zones with 2 diopters of defocus to slow the progression of myopia. This design allows the child to see clearly while benefiting from the treatment effect.

MiSight Contact Lenses

CooperVision’s MiSight® 1 day is the first and only contact lens FDA-approved to slow the progression of myopia in children aged 8-12 at the initiation of treatment.

MiSight® lenses are meant to be worn at least 10 hours/day, 6 days/week.

After three years, the study concluded the lens effectively slowed myopia progression by an average of 59% and slowed the rate at which the eye lengthens by an average of 52%.

After 7 years, those who were switched to regular contacts did not experience a ‘rebound effect’; average rate of reduction at which the eye lengthens remained at 50% for all age groups (so those patients starting treatment at 12 y.o. will have the same benefit as those who start at age 8 y.o.).

90% of children in the study preferred wearing MiSight® 1 day lenses over wearing eyeglasses.

90% of parents reported their children were happy with their experience wearing contact lenses. They noted the comfort, vision, ease of use, and freedom from eyeglasses as top benefits.

Dr. Ryan has shifted to using MiSight® 1 day lenses as his primary treatment option.

He’s been prescribing MiSight® 1 day lenses since 2020, so he has seen the results, and they’re impressive. He has prescribed them for patients as young as 7 and as old at 18, with similar stabilizing results across that age range. His personal philosophy is that any myopic child that he sees should be followed very closely, and their myopia managed with either MiSight® 1 day contact lenses or atropine drops, or both. The reality is that no one knows how nearsighted a child will become if they’re prescribed regular glasses or contacts. What we do know for sure, is that when they’re wearing MiSight® 1 day lenses, their myopic progression will slow down by an average of 50-60%. We also know that the less myopic they ultimately become, the lower the risk of vision-threatening eye diseases later in life.
